Bike Legal Attends Sandstone Elementary Bikes for Books Assembly in St. George, Utah

The Bikes for Books incentive reading program has made a significant impact in advancing the reading levels among elementary students.

What is the Bikes for Books Program?

The Bikes for Books Program is a community service project sponsored by the St. George Masonic Lodge #33.

It is a reading incentive program designed for children from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade and made available to local Washington County public schools.

How Does it Work?

Students are encouraged to read as many books as possible within a designated time frame. Each book read earns the student an entry form to complete, including the book's name, the student's name, grade, and class. The completed forms are then placed in the appropriate container designated for each class. The more books a student reads, the more entry forms they can submit, increasing their chances of winning.

At the end of the semester, a school assembly is held where winners are drawn for each grade level, one boy and one girl. The prizes awarded include a bicycle, a safety helmet, and a t-shirt featuring the name of the Masonic Sponsor, the Square and Compasses emblem, and the school's name.

Additionally, the program acknowledges a special achievement award chosen by the teachers in each school. This award recognizes a student who has shown significant improvement in their reading skills as a direct result of participating in this exceptional program.

To complete the prizes, each winner also receives a Certificate of Achievement signed by the School Principal and the Worshipful Master of the Lodge.

This community service project is truly remarkable and aims to promote reading and literacy among young students.
